A special treat!

Alice Smith appeared on stage to sing her Grammy nominated song, "Dream," (I think it is called.) Speachless. We have the track at home, but live it is unbelievable.

Citizen Cope

T in birthday heaven. I'm questioning the decision to start with unchilled shots of tequila. Excellent concert!

Rain

V & Timmy wait in the rain while birthday girl and i take cover. i couldn't let her wait alone.

Happy Birthday

T couldn't wait for us to cut her delicious surprise ice cream cake because she is 12 (like the rest of us!) Had a nice early night at Polly's and Friday night we're going to Baltimore to see Citizen Cope for the actual birthday. Looking forward to it!

Do you know Jack?

Project Runway fans know that Jack Mackenroth has left this season's show and have probably heard that very special pictures of him have been circulating. Here's the link to Frank Louis' website. It is quite enjoyable and provides a measurably better view of Jack than most of the pictures on the Bravo website.

Bragging Rights

Mr. Timmy got grades yesterday for his first semester in school. I knew he could do a good job, but after being out of school for years (dare I say almost decades?) he was a bit apprehensive. Here's the report:

Algebra - B
Anatomy & Physiology I - A
Anatomy & Physiology I Lab - A
English Comp I - A
Psychology I - A

Drum Roll Please....GPA: 3.769

The best part...I threw a little attitude towards him about something trivial at Polly's last night. His response to me, "Don't fuck with me, I'm smart." Hilarious. There was a group picture as many of the DC Peeps nostalgically gathered at our old watering hole, but my camera phone sucks in dark light. Hopefully Cat will post it over at Chimneyfall since she had her fancy new camera ready at a moment's notice.

I'm packing up the sleigh and heading to Ohio to see my baby girl. I am excited to go, but so dreading that long drive alone. It will all be worth it. Fortunately, weather.com says I won't be driving through any precipitation. They sure got some snow up North according to BostonSteamer.

Dancin'

This is what happens after Chimney Falls comes in third in trivia at Solly's Tavern. Yes, now that LW is gone, we are proud of third place.

Puerto Rican Gasolina

I caved and caught the last two episodes and the finale of "A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila" last night. It was oddly addictive despite the fact that I generally despise that type of show. The media hype around it sucked me in. I'm glad she went with Bobby B in the end. I'd take him too, and am fairly certain he goes both ways. If not, he eventually will.

Regardless, all the drinking on the show made me thirsty and I thought a cocktail before bed might help me fight this insomnia. I scrounged around and found the packet of Gasolina that Hector gave me. This, my friends, is an alcoholic's Capri Sun. You peel off the top corner and a straw appears. Then you drink this potent concoction of rum, tequila, and fruit juice. I'm not gonna lie and say it tastes fantastic, but it did the trick. I think he said it is a popular 'grab and go' drink in convenient stores, gas stations, etc.

Now it's time to go to work. I'm finding it quite difficult to enjoy the workplace when my job is purely to motivate people I've just laid off and to fight customer fires. I need a challenge and these are not fun or challenging things. Perhaps I should pack a lunch with the remaining packet of Gasolina to make things interesting?

Job Interview

I haven't been on the other side of the interview desk in quite some time. I'm checking out YouTube to see what it's all about. Here's a REAL good one:

I'm alive!

I survived the weekend. After riding a little bender bus of sorts, I went into hiding at 7:30 on Saturday. 24 hours of sleepy time and a quiet Sunday evening have regenerated me and I'm perky and ready to go face the world! It kinda sucks having to work knowing you are just there short term. It takes away the purpose, but my job is to do that and keep those around me motivated till the end. Hope nobody does anything like this.

Food

This is the third time we've eaten. I thought we were having apps, but look at this big plate of papusas for $3. Yes...cheaper than a PBR. May not have bootie, but they have foodie.

Friday, December 14, 2007

no bootie

RJ wanted to go look for #&@icans, but there aint no bootie at the Judy.

Patron will have to do.

Red/Black

We ran into Randy's old peep, Brad, at the Red and the Black. We having a great time. Might not have much, but persistence is something we are good at.

Hand

Is this hand waiving caution or openly welcoming us? I'm optimistic so we will power on. RJ wants me to blog about Jesus...I think y'all know that story.

15th St.

I didn't want to walk (stumble) into traffic to get a pic, but that's the sign for 15th St. Randy, "didn't know it ran all the way down here." God help him...he'll be on that bike for days trying to find H St NE off of his 15th St. NW. Should I explain it to him?

H St

We've made a "wise" decision and taken ourselves off U st. Like Momma Cat always said, don't dirty in your own sand box.

Part 2

Happy Holidays

He didn't realize I was capturing a snaphot when he RIPPED the skirt off the tree and threw it over his shoulder as a holiday poncho.

I'm prolly in trouble for not being home, but how can Timmy judge when we are dancing around the house like holiday fools?

Thursday, December 13, 2007

um huh

When you lay off a whole division of peeps and yourself, you need Taco Bell.

When Vergie Bridges calls and demands a been burrito, you buy it. A girl has needs.

Look What I Got!!!

Project Runway & Movie Night

Ouch, I only earned 3 points this episode. Michael & Catrina had movie night so I will have to catch up via DVR tonight to see what happened. Overall The District slipped 39 places to 139 overall out of thousands and thousands of players.
  • 3 points this episode
  • 41 Points, total
  • Overall leaderboard: 139th place
  • This Episode: 3446th place
Tisha chose "Hustle & Flow" and comfort/snack food like wings, popcorn chicken, tater tots, mac & cheese, mini corn dogs, etc. There were about 15 people - a good time!

Sister Disco

This is serious...Vergie Bridges has started blogging over at SISTERDISCO. She's watching to see what you do and she's gonna talk about it! This, my friends, is guaranteed! Click over to read her first post. Don't forget to leave some feedback!

I added a quick link in the right hand column for your future reference.

Lucid & Legal

According to the New York Times article, "Absinthe, The American Remix," Absinthe has been legal in the US since late spring! Check out drinklucid.com I definitely want some, but it looks like it is currently only distributed in NY, NJ, TX, IL, and CA. There's a bar list for NYC so put that on your "to do" list for your next NY trip! We'll send Tiff or one of our other friends to investigate.

2007 Heisman

Surprised to see a sports post here? Don't worry, I'm not Kevin or Laura...this will be brief. I wasn't interested in the Heisman winner until I found the "Sportrait: 2007 Heisman Award Hotties Tim Tebow, Darren McFadden, Colt Brennan, and Chase Daniel."

You probably know by now that Tebow won, but I was cheering for Brennan. Click the link above and you'll see why!

Off to work - have a great day!

This is my first post from the new iPod. This day has arrived...I can mobile blog using an iPod and a wi-fi signal. I think the best use will be for editing mobile pic posts sent from my phone.

Holiday Gift Guide

Asking what to get that special lady in your life this holiday season? Consider the "Shenis." This handy device enables a woman to pee standing up. There are some funny YouTube videos out there including this one below and another one showing Heidi Klum playing with her Shenis on Graham Norton's show.

A big thanks to Keith over at Knee Deep in Mud for exposing me to this. I don't personally know him, but apparently we have mutual friends and he lives in my neighborhood. He's got some great stuff on his blog - check out what card he recommends for the "Senator Wide Stance" in your life.

Raffle Win!

I was very excited to win a new iPod Touch at my holiday work party. We earned a raffle ticket for each toy brought for charity. I purchased four items and while standing in line at the cash register, I saw the cutest little monkey stuffed pet. Since monkeys are my baby girl's favorite animals and my Mom always said the best gifts are gifts you would want for yourself, I bought a fifth toy. It was this fifth raffle ticket that won the iPod!

Dags & Robert were behind me in line to enter the party; they would have gotten the ticket and the iPod had I not purchased the $2.99 monkey. I don't feel bad that they are jealous :-) Let me just tell you I LOVE this iPod. The wi-fi capabilities to check blogs, email, etc. on the go instead of dragging the laptop out for coffee, etc. is fantastic!

XXX-mas

Summer Camp gave us a XXX take on a classic story last year and I highly recommend it for a holiday laugh. This is rather irreverent - be prepared.

If you like that you may also like her rendition of Winter Wonderland. I hope she throws out something new for this holiday season.

Headache?

Apparently our special friends have headaches too. I'm not allowed to say where I'm at, but this was found behind the bar. Apparently they don't know how to open a child proof cap so they went in their own way.

Guess who's dating!

Jack & Dale! Pop over to OutZone for details...

Unfortunately, I am dropping Jack from my Fantasy Project Runway team.  The previews don't look promising.  I replaced him with Ricky.

Project Runway

I forgot to update my score! I'm currently 100th in Fafarazzi's Fantasy Project Runway. I'm debating what to do about Jack. Previews make it look like he may be leaving the show, but I don't want to give up on him yet :-(

Check out the site at the link to the right and set up your own fantasy team(s) for your favorite reality shows.

Time to make it work...I mean go to work.

Funny NYC

I must have missed the YouTube subscription update and just realized Kevin Nadal posted a new video clip over a month ago. He's the random bar friend I met at Grillfish that I've kept in touch with and hung out with in NYC the last time I was there.

Haven't been to New York in ages. Tiffanie comes back from Europe this weekend. Maybe I'll go see her and all my NY friends!

Mess

Yes, it has come to this. Can you believe it is a Wednesday? I am supposed to be a responsible professional. (I think I spelled that wrong)

2 much wine

Rita Jean thinks this painting looks like her. I said she may be alot of things, but a beautiful woman she is not and will never be.

A beautiful man....perhaps, but not the woman in this painting.

18th Amendment

Yes, I said the 18th amendment. Google it and you will see that it was repealed on this day. Don't know what it is? Prohibition!

Time to celebrate. Rita Jean and I are doing that at the annual holiday party for the Ellington. It is at Utopia this year. I also hear they have $1 bloodies/mimosas for Sunday brunch...might have to return!

Alert DC - Snow

"National Weather has issued a Snow Advisory for Wednesday from 6AM to 6PM for the District and surrounding jurisdictions. The accumulations are 1 to 2 inches of snow and the temperature high 35 and the low 28."

So...this certainly isn't Ohio. We wouldn't even notice 1 - 2 inches of snow in Ohio and in DC you get an emergency alert via SMS and email. Nice to know, yes; an emergency, no. I am, however, excited to see the first local snow. We had a momentary flury, but no actual snow yet. The only snow we've seen has been in the mountains en route to Pittsburgh a few weeks back.

Speaking of back, I'm finally pain free. It took 8 days. Now the tattoo is just itchy and dry. There is no amount of lotion in the world that can make it feel normal, but at least it doesn't hurt! Unless the pending storm shuts down the city, I am jumping back into the gym today before I lose my fitness motivation. We'll see how that goes.

oohaahs and aahs

rj is pissed that it costs 40 for a little food, but we're meetin' lots of friends and need food.

tickets

There is a smoking balcony, but you have to wait in line for a "pass" to go out there. Interesting crowd control concept. Strange.

Town Discoteque

I convinced RJ to come here (yes I had to pay the taxi, the admission, and the bar tab) but look what we are lookin' at. I will return.

nasty

Why are we at the Eagle? Why is nobody else here? Two fat old men, 1 slut, and us do not constitute a fun time. RJ is concerned that the pic is vague....I think that's a good thing.

jealous?

Margarita Jean slaved all evening to present this fab meal for us! Drag queens later if we can convince Cynthia.

Tattoo!

I was at Tattoo Paradise from 6:00 - 11:15 on Tuesday night. Grant did give me two short breaks, but it was mostly unpleasant I powered through the whole thing and was (am still) in major pain, but it is over!

My friend Erica would be proud of me. She'd make fun of the style, but she'd still respect it. Strangely enough, she gave me the strength to get this, and her family tragically experienced another death on Tuesday. Her sister's long term boyfriend and father of her children passed away unexpectedly. I feel for both Erica and Marla's kids as it's been a rough year for them. I just can't imagine it...

I took a couple days to post the full pic so I could show a few people in person before throwing it on the web. I'm fairly certain that Timmy hates it, but the feedback from friends has been overwhelmingly positive. They're probably just humoring me, but I'm tough now... Let me know what you think. You can also check out my ink at the link below.

Sneak Peak!

Tonight is the fill in. I decided to go with solid black in lieu of shading. It's coming along nicely but I'm bleeding and in wretched pain. Thankfully, Grant says he can finish it tonight.

Tiff is safe

Thank God Tiff wasn't on this ship when it sank. I believe it is the same one she was scheduled to be on mid January.

A fun weekend and a wake-up call

Fantastic laid back weekend! Jeff came into DC on Friday and we had a nice night out on the town with Rita Jean. You know it is good when the day ends with Ben's Chili Bowl. We did play rock stars with a fun little bar crawl.

Saturday was a fun brunch, a power nap, and a few cocktails at Polly's. With all the locals out of town for the weekend, it was not a very busy night. Fortunately, many of our friends were in town and a great casual low-key night was had by all.

I heard a radio ad for Wake up Wal-Mart and thought I'd share. I've often talked about why I won't shop at Wal-Mart and it goes far beyond the appearance of WT living. The company has some very damaging practices. Check out the link below and spread the word.

Back to civilization

I could have slept for another hour. Concerns of snowy weather and BF shoppers blocking the roadways, I got up at 5:30, chatted with my Mom & Dad for awhile, and then headed to the airport. Much like the trip here, quick and uneventful. I was literally the only one in line for security. Hopefully the flight will be as painless. Unfortunately I have an hour and 40 minutes till it takes off.

I had a great time with my family, despite the discussions about politics, hunting, English as our national language, and assorted other things that made me cringe. Fortunately, Grandma's house is huge so I just changed rooms whenever the topic became too heated. I am, of course, outnumbered in thought at this family. Whitney had a nice visit, went to her Grandmother's for a few hours and then came back. She spent the majority of the evening playing with her cousins and visiting family. The pic above is my Mommy and my Grandma. Two of the many people in my family I give thanks for!

The pic below is my cousin Jenny. Fortunately she is not Amish, but sported her Halloween costume for a good family laugh. This is an authentic Amish outfit, diaper bag, etc., that my Aunt Lovina loaned her. She says it went over well in St. Louis! While the baby is a doll, she does have one in the oven (as my Dad would say.) I have two other cousins who are preggers as well. Crazy. My family needs to learn about population control.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Friends,

It is again the specific time of year to give thanks. I want to thank all of my friends for making my life complete. You each add to some specific piece of my happiness and for that I am truly thankful. It would be a lonely and boring place without each of you.

I'm also thankful to the travel gods. Last night, I did not wait for the train or the bus. It took only five minutes to get through security at BWI. My Southwest plane boarded on time, I got a window seat, and we landed in CMH 15 minutes early. All of the rental car companies had big lines, EXCEPT the one I used. There were two agents anxiously awaiting my arrival. This was the most unusual and painless "day before Thanksgiving" travel ever! I had to drive through a little rain, but I arrived at Steve & Lisa's new mansion much earlier than expected.

I am watching the parade and will be heading out to Grandma's house soon. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Here's a little Thanksgiving horror flick from YouTube...scroll down and stop the site music before you watch it.

Holiday Time!

For those of you inspired by the Peta message, feel free to click over to VegCooking.com for an animal friendly recipe for your holiday feast. Check out the pic on the right showing how comfortable the early weeks of your bird have been.

For those of you now pissed off at me for posting this...just wait...there's a nice Adam Sandler song for you after the Rob Zombie message. You all know I'm not a vegetarian, but it wouldn't take much. See why I don't like meat on the bone?

Mrs. Dags

Check out this pic of Dag's mom! She's a famous scientist and going to be on a CBS special about genetics or disease or photocopying or something. I didn't really read the article, but was compelled to post this here for you to see.

I'm sure Dags is proud of her, but I hope it doesn't blow her cover. Those jewels...

My thoughts and prayers are with my friend Laura. Her father passed on to a better world this morning. Laura has posted a loving tribute on her blog. Be sure to stop by and share your love with Laura and Jim during this most difficult of times.

Grand Concourse

It sure is pretty and lunch was fantastic! We're about to head home.

Announcing an engagement

The trip to Pittsburgh has been fantastic. We couldn't blog on the way here for fear that Bill would find out we were traveling and spoil the surprise! We drove through our first snow for this friend! Well worth it for sure.

Bill arrived from dinner with Tommy an was blown away by the house full of friends, which included many people like Beth, Dori, Tom, Paul, Greg, and others that we've become friends with over the years! As mentioned in my quick post on Friday night, Tommy proposed (hence the wedding music in the background.)

The boys enjoyed a piece of cake later in the evening. Wine was flowing, the boys were glowing, and we all had great fun. After opening presents, the city put off fireworks as if they were perfectly timed to finalize the evening!

The DC contingent went back to the hotel and the boys all went out. It turned into a bit of a disaster. We never remember that just because drinks are super cheap, it doesn't mean we should power through shot after shot.

M/C went to brunch with B/T, but the boys slept in. We each ate lunch at a variety of places and then met up at Bill's house where we relaxed for the afternoon and evening. Today we are getting ready for brunch at the Grand Concourse and then we'll head back home. Fun times in Pittsburgh!

P-burgh pride

They are proud of strange things in the burgh.

They take it literally

Spelling might not be my strongest subject, but when we order soco and lime we dont expect them to take it literally....what the f is a lime slice?

Happy Birthday and Congratulations!

We came to Pittsburgh to surprise Bill for his 40th birthday. It was pulled off flawlessly by his lovely boyfriend and fiancee, Tom. Yes, I said fiancee. Not only are we having the pleasure of celebrating a birthday, tonight at dinner, Tom proposed. Amazing to share such an evening with our friends. It's going to be a weekend to remember!
