Feliz QuinceaƱera

How on earth is my daughter turning 15 today? Someone needs to alert the media because it is a miracle that a 12 year old can have a 15 year old child.

Memorial Day Camping!

We had a fantastic time camping with friends in Bentonville along the river. It was a little disconcerting to stop for a BEAR to cross the street about a mile from our camp. I tried to catch him with my cell phone camera, but he was really fast. If you click the picture above, you can see his ears and ass to the right/behind the tree as he jumped over the fence to get out of Bernadette's way. Fortunately, we all lived and none of the Black or RNG Bears invaded our campsite. Can't wait to go back in two weeks! If anyone is interested in camping, we'll be going all summer. Who'd ever believe I'd become a primitive mountain camper? Hope y'all had a great Memorial Day too!

Insomnia

I am so excited about the long camping weekend that I can't sleep! Looking forward to being off the grid and watching the sun come up without an urban backdrop. It is kind of pretty this AM in the city.

DC 2443

I'm all for parking control to keep places for the residents of my neighborhood to park, but this parking patrol car has parked illegally, blocking my condo's dumpster, for 3 days. Not OK.

Jason Dottley in MY gayborhood

I missed Jason Dottley in Nashville by a few days, I missed him in Dallas by a few days, and now he is coming to DC to do a show at TOWN and I'm going to miss it by a few days. This is three blocks from my house and I'm gonna be traveling that weekend. One day I'll be able to blog about seeing them both perform live.

If you're in town, go to Del's Show. Jason produces it and you'll get to see him perform his new single as well. I'll hate you and be jealous, but you should go.

Shooting in AM

This is exactly why I didnt want to come to eat in Adams Morgan, but the food be good. Apparently there was ANOTHER shooting and we had to walk thrrough the scene to get home.

Time to eat

Why are we in Adams Morgan? Hungry...

Who are we?

WTF

Hmmmm

Sign of the times in Dallas?

I find it a telling sign that the lending.com building has only 4 cars on the roof level of the parking garage. If this was collections.com or foreclosure.com building, the garage would be overflowing.

What would you sacrifice for your beliefs?

Focus on the family ran this full page ad in today's USA TODAY page 11a promoting their agenda. I will, and have, sacrificed my ability to legally marry to be with the man I love. Hopefully the ignorant religious right will lose their campaign to take away my freedom of choice before they end up losing their own freedom. I respect their beliefs and it is unfortunate that they don't respect mine.

Party in Pittsburgh!

We made it to Pittsburgh in Bernadette! I have to tell you how nice it is to have a table in the vehicle to work and play on the interweb while taking a road trip. Oh yes, and to eat samiches! We are having a fab time catching up with friends at the B A R in the Burgh. Too bad they have to work in the AM. I'll have to ask my family members to have babies on the weekend next time so it better suits my social obligations. By morning time I should have a new name, 'Uncle Jay,' and I will be back in Ohio to celebrate!

My Nephew!

We don't have an actual crying baby yet, but we will soon! Here's his heartbeat from today's Dr. visit!

Apparently drunkie forgot the attachment on the original post last night...Can you believe we have to step on/over this mess to get into the p-rat?

The New Rug

Seriously...was this necessary?

I Prefer Waffle House

According to the DCist, an IHOP is being considered for Columbia Heights. While I realize not everyone can afford breakfast at Commonwealth or The Heights, I too am a bit disappointed that a chain is the solution. Why can't we get a Mom & Pop type breakfast joint/diner with affordable prices? Of course in Columbia Heights it would more likely be a Pop & Pop joint! I supposed the rents and economic risk make start-up costs prohibitive.

None will be haters when partaking of the $4.99 all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast at 4 AM. I know a few of you who put on your head scarves slip into Ruby Tuesday a la Anastasia Beaverhausen for some cheap & guilty pleasures...I predict you'll be the same folks up in the IHOP.

Many are weighing in on the subject (see below)...frankly, I prefer Waffle House.
- IHOP is Headed for Columbia Heights; The end is near - 14th & You
- Give me pancakes or give me death! or at least give me something else equally as high-brow - The Anti DC

Disclosure: I've NEVER stepped foot in the Columbia Heights Ruby Tuesday with or without Cynthia & Rita Jean.

Happy Blogiversary to ME and Happy Earth Day to YOU

I first blogged on this day in 2006. While the 'early days' were mindless, stupid, and irregular, today is the official three year anniversary. I guess one might still call this blog ....

Happy Earth Day! Enjoy this Sesame Street Clip. It's better than putting up a pic of an anniversary cake and it reminds me of the time my baby girl (~3 years old) colored herself green with Crayola markers. I'll never forget her saying, with a trembling, I know what I did was probably wrong voice, "...but Daddy, I really wanted to be greeeeeeeeen." I swear it took three green baths to turn her back to a somewhat human color. I sent her back to her Mom's at the end of that weekend with a slightly green tint. It took some splaining to do. Conclusion: Crayola - Washable - Not completely.

Motorin'

We just finished lunch and we're heading South full sail ahead!

Caviar & Champagne on the Bay!

We are pretty freakin' far from everything to not have a motor. Lauren and I strongly encouraged Tom to prove we could also go back in the other direction. Test was successful so now we are going further out. This is serious fun! See the Bay Bridge in the background! Lauren keeps inuiring about the distance to FL

Rigging the boat!

Lauren and I are cautiously optimistic!

She has a name!

Ms Bernadette passed her first test at the DMV with flying colors!

Fun times!

I first was comfortable with being gay at the Pittsbugh Eagle after seeing men showing affection and 2 stepping...this isn't 2 stepping, but it is still hot! I wore my boots but not my hat (there was a costume change) Do you like my blogging? I am not sure that anyone even reads this shit and even though the web traffic is positive, I might want to stop soon.

Vacation Flashback

It wasn't all political history and relaxation on vacation. I also met a new girlfriend. She even brought her kid to Amerika, the nightclub. This pic shows when she spilled her drink on my shoulder. I guess it is hard to hold a baby, smoke, drink, dance, and look longingly into my American eyes all at once.

I was a little shocked to find she was trying to cheat on her boyfriend with me, but then realized he was into it and posed for a photo. Yes, he is, mmm, a short person with an oxygen tank. Notice it didn't stop anyone from smoking, including him!

Fun Vacation Memories! Thanks to Oscar for sending these photos taken at some ungodly morning disco hour!

24 de Marzo 2009

I wasn't going to blog anything from vacation until I could post my journal or at least compile a representative set of pics. This, however, needed to be posted today! We intended to go to museums but found out it was a national holiday. We participated in our first South American protest! Timmy wanted me to smile, but I couldn't when we were protesting for information on 30,000 people missing since the 70s. There were a gagillion people, some very passionate, some very sad. While we were only spectators for the most part, it was a memorable experience for sure. When it can be put together, I also captured some pretty amazing video. It is still going on, but we are now resting at the hotel. I stopped for a litre of Smirnoff, two bottles of wine, and a soda from the little store on the corner (less than $20 US total!) It's gonna be a fun night!

Buenos Aires Bound!

Layover was painless and we have boarded the plane; next stop is Argentina in 9 hrs 24 mins! We'll try to periodically confirm we're alive. Thanks to Tasty T for house sitting - hope parties at our place aren't more fun without us. You know where we keep the booze!

Fat Girl!

I had a target and a stretch target. I didn't make the stretch target, but thanks to many cocktails last night, I am leaving the country below the target weight!!!!

I started in December, was nearly 250, the FATTEST in my life, and am proud to say that I am now below 220 (219.6 to be exact.) The target was 220 and stretch target was 200. I plan to get a new tattoo when I hit the stretch goal, but the real reward has been the effect on my body from running and working out. My waist tells me I've lost far more weight than ~30 pounds and I will be taking my 'cute' clothes on vacation. I'm such a girl.

When I drop below 200, it will be the first time below my driver's license weight since I was 18! Why am I saying all these details? TO FORCE ME TO STAY ON TRACK! However, there will be NO focus or thinking about it for the next 11 days! Hello vacation! Goodbye rules ;-)

Vacation Night 1

What a way to kick off vacation! I worked till 10 and am starting on U St. RJ says the ladder looks like a giant penis! I am having a cocktail or seven (if I dehydrate myself enough tonight I can reach my target vacation weight) and there appears to be fire dept. drama at Al Crostino. False alarm but lots of firemens!

Weekend

I had a fantastic time visiting my daughter and family. Columbus had a low supply of friends this visit, but it was great to see those who were around. I am VERY ready for vacation on Friday! This long work trip is kicking my azz.

While we anxiously await more Sordid Lives news, Mr. Dottley has been busy turning himself into a Rock Star! Check out the preview track

Movie Night!

Red Velvet cake to go with tonight's movie, Steel Magnolias! Happy Birthday Randy! Oh yes, we had mac & cheese, cornbread, and fried chicken from Florida Ave. Grill too!

Nurse Cynthia

Cynthia started clinicals this semester and last week began the part at an actual hospital with real live patients! Unfortunately I was still at the gym when he left and didn't get to see him in his costume on that official milestone. Today, however, I made it home in time to capture this lovely photo. Cute shoes ;-)I may poke fun, but am proud of how well he's done and all the hard work it took him to get here. Mostly I am looking forward to the last three semesters being finished! Don't kill anyone today!

Thanks to DC Blogs

Seventy Six
Seventy Six by Matt Roe on Zooomr

While this blog normally gets 10-15 hits a day, that changes when I blog about something "noteworthy." Yesterday, DC blogs had a one liner about the garage chandelier and traffic jumped to 76 hits in one day! Thanks DC Blogs! I suppose writing about the excessive decadence of a chandelier for a car in a time of moderation and frugality is interesting. If one routinely shows restraint and responsibility, it is certainly ok to punctuate life with a dose of fabulous!

I wonder how many people scrolled down to see Merritt's birthday dance? Have a great day! Off to work.

Alive and Tweeting!

I haven't been doing anything blogworthy. My life has consisted of working, running, going to the gym, and sleeping in preparation for the half marathon. Hopefully this wholesome living will result in a vacation ready body. I have lost 25 pounds since the holidays and ran almost 12 miles on each of the last two Saturdays. Progress for sure for a fat old gay.

Since the blog has one reader that might actually care that I am still kicking, I started Twitter updates that can be seen in the upper right corner. I guess, unlike blogging, it is more acceptable to tweet (is that what you call it?) the most mundane things. I also promise to try and find something interesting (drinking events?) to blog about in the near future...maybe even tonight!

As this pic sorta shows, we are entering PA for some fun with the boys. It was MZs 50th on Thursday and we're gonna celebrate!

A 'Real' Snow Storm!

I've complained that there haven't been any 'real' snow storms in the District this year. I was skeptical at the original 6-10" forecast, and rightfully so, but we did get 3-6" in the District! This pic was taken at 7:30 AM. The trains were dead and few people made it to the office, but I was there. My Ohio roots don't let a little pile of snow get in the way. It amazes me how people, even those that take the train, are afraid of snow, and use it as a lame excuse to stay in. As expected, by 11:00 AM it had essentially stopped and all the roads near my office were clear.
