Movie Night!

Red Velvet cake to go with tonight's movie, Steel Magnolias! Happy Birthday Randy! Oh yes, we had mac & cheese, cornbread, and fried chicken from Florida Ave. Grill too!

Nurse Cynthia

Cynthia started clinicals this semester and last week began the part at an actual hospital with real live patients! Unfortunately I was still at the gym when he left and didn't get to see him in his costume on that official milestone. Today, however, I made it home in time to capture this lovely photo. Cute shoes ;-)I may poke fun, but am proud of how well he's done and all the hard work it took him to get here. Mostly I am looking forward to the last three semesters being finished! Don't kill anyone today!

Thanks to DC Blogs

Seventy Six
Seventy Six by Matt Roe on Zooomr

While this blog normally gets 10-15 hits a day, that changes when I blog about something "noteworthy." Yesterday, DC blogs had a one liner about the garage chandelier and traffic jumped to 76 hits in one day! Thanks DC Blogs! I suppose writing about the excessive decadence of a chandelier for a car in a time of moderation and frugality is interesting. If one routinely shows restraint and responsibility, it is certainly ok to punctuate life with a dose of fabulous!

I wonder how many people scrolled down to see Merritt's birthday dance? Have a great day! Off to work.

Alive and Tweeting!

I haven't been doing anything blogworthy. My life has consisted of working, running, going to the gym, and sleeping in preparation for the half marathon. Hopefully this wholesome living will result in a vacation ready body. I have lost 25 pounds since the holidays and ran almost 12 miles on each of the last two Saturdays. Progress for sure for a fat old gay.

Since the blog has one reader that might actually care that I am still kicking, I started Twitter updates that can be seen in the upper right corner. I guess, unlike blogging, it is more acceptable to tweet (is that what you call it?) the most mundane things. I also promise to try and find something interesting (drinking events?) to blog about in the near future...maybe even tonight!

As this pic sorta shows, we are entering PA for some fun with the boys. It was MZs 50th on Thursday and we're gonna celebrate!

A 'Real' Snow Storm!

I've complained that there haven't been any 'real' snow storms in the District this year. I was skeptical at the original 6-10" forecast, and rightfully so, but we did get 3-6" in the District! This pic was taken at 7:30 AM. The trains were dead and few people made it to the office, but I was there. My Ohio roots don't let a little pile of snow get in the way. It amazes me how people, even those that take the train, are afraid of snow, and use it as a lame excuse to stay in. As expected, by 11:00 AM it had essentially stopped and all the roads near my office were clear.

I want that

Here's a completely childish thing from drivemocion that I really need to own. I want the animated one (in the video) but the others look fun too. Kind of expensive for something that I would be too embarrassed to every actually use.

Goodbye U Street Rite Aid???

According to Prince of Petworth, this is the boutique 4 star hotel that is being discussed to replace Rite Aid at the corner of 13th/U. I presume it would have to take out several of those other horribly designed "strip mall" style stores as well (Pizza Slut, Creme, Al Crostino, Pretty Nail, etc.)
For all the details, visit the Cordozo Shaw Neighborhood Association. While a key bonus is the intent for Leed Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, the real green will be the shocked faces of those people peering out the third floor across into the Ellington. You know what I mean RJ...how do you feel about hotel rooms directly across from your bedroom winder?

I couldn't resist...

Here's another present for Bosox Siobhan from 8ball

A present for you!

I didn't save enough money to send one of these to Bosox Siobhan today, but she surely would have enjoyed it on this special day!

DL reporter

Amazing "Richard"

OMFG - i cant blog what we are actually seeing, but are here on a completely journalistic mission with vergie.

I think i got in the wrong lane

Oops

Hmmmmmm

I am not sure if it is Rusty or Kevin, but one of Rita Jean's brothers was judging his stance. Cute outfit RJ; is that an Armani gown?

We thought we could smoke on the roof in the tent, but we had to go through the door of the tent to smoke.

Hit This

This taxi isn't the only thing that can crash into this bar! We now number four again!

We've stopped counting

If u can figure out this location you are real good!

Still here...

We thought it was Sunday Funday, but it feels like a Friday night: j, t, r, g, s, m, v, d, h, f, t, v, t, s, k, & k are all rollin cash only at the undisclosed location. This won't end well.

Moving On

10 mimosas, 4 bloodies, & 2 glasses of champaign and we are off to the 2nd location pictured here. Oh yeah...we ate too.

Sunday Funday Kickoff

We number four and are starting a boozy brunch! I ran 7.65 miles this am to prepare my body for some abuse! Stop one, Utopia for $1.25 brunch cocktails and some viddles. RJ and I have a perfect view of Mr. Sexy Brunch Bartender!

I stopped to capture this tourist trap alley mural off U St.

Sollys Update

I went for a run with Vergie and found Solly's still surrounded in police tape. The construction peoples are boarding up the damage.

**4:30 PM UPDATE** Solly's U Street Tavern will be open tonight! There is no stopping John Solomon!

Solly's Smashed by Taxicab

I was exhausted and decided to stay in last night. At nearly 11 PM, I was nestled in the bed instead of sitting in the window at Solly's Tavern as I might frequently do. This was an excellent choice since at that very time, a taxi driver lost control and REMOVED that window and put the six people behind it in the hospital. I hope it wasn't any of my friends!

You say potato, I say Picasso

I apparently am the guinea pig client at my gym because they put me with yet another new trainer, Miguel, who lasted all of 8 days. I was his first and last client sessions during his time at the gym. Fortunately, both were comped; I will be a guinea pig all day for free training sessions. I really liked the new guy too. A hot little Latin boy that made my muscles ache in all the right places. Regardless, I have now lost 17.5 lbs since my peak this winter and thankfully can fit into some of my warmer winter work clothes again. I'm not race ready yet, but progress is being made. Next week I start with a seasoned, long-time trainer. While ultimately I'd prefer to have Erwyn back, I hope this one works out.

Speaking of work, it has been the longest week ever...and cold enough to create snotsickles on the noses. Six weeks from today I'll be warm in S. America. Of course it is fall there and will probably be cold...at least there will be booze and shopping!

Thanks to Gaylistdaily I found this Mr. Picassohead site and created a masterpiece! Check it out and make your own for a good smile this Friday!

Almost Done

visited 32 states (64%)
Create your own visited map of The United States or try another Douwe Osinga project

I think if I hit Hawaii, Oregon, and Colorado I'll be done. The rest of the states don't really appeal to me. Of course, I did receive a personalized invitation to Alaska from Sarah Palin. Try finding that one in your junk mail pile! Have a great Tuesday and thanks to FiestyHistoryGal for showing me these Douwe Osinga projects!

Red Light District Returns

Just mugging befoire call backs

Last May, former Ziegfeld's & Secrets owner, Allen Caroll, obtained the zoning, etc. to re-open the clubs near the old SW location. We haven't heard much about it in the straight or gay media. According to a January 26th Washington Blade article (click for full story):
The clubs are slated to open in a warehouse building at 1824 Half St., S.W., less than half a mile from the O Street, S.E., gay entertainment strip that was demolished to make way for the stadium and where Ziegfeld’s and Secrets operated for more than 20 years.

The new location on Half Street, S.W., is the former home to Pier 9, one of the city’s first large gay disco clubs that opened in the 1970s. Pier 9 closed in the 1980s and its building was occupied by a series of straight nightclubs before it became vacant last year.
Our closeted Republican politicians and staffers will be pleased to know they can once again hop a few blocks from the Capital to catch a drag show and DL 'lap dance' starting the first or second weekend in February. I'm pleased that it will be located in a historic gay club location and curious if Ms. Blair Michaels will leave her post at Towne or at least make an appearance at the new Ziegfelds? I'm sure the Chimney Fall gang will make a pilgrimage to tell you all about it on the blogs. The trip will be exclusively documentary of course since we're all good Christian women ;-)

The Gay Alphabet

Friends - It is time to clear out the weekend madness and give you something new to look at besides Big T and his Gay(ng) signs. I just finished a training session with my new trainer, Miguel, and so far so good. I'm back in the healthy eating, regular running, and now scheduled training sessions. I'm gonna beat this tired old broke down body into shape one way or another. Weekends like the last one must not be repeated any time soon!

Thanks to Joe.My.God for bringing us a link to TheGayAlphabet.com - It is totally suitable for work and will make you smile. Happy Hump Day!

Oh yes....I still need to upload baby shower and inauguration pics. Soon. Very soon.

Hanky Panky

So...our Flight to boston was canceled so we came to Hanks for dessert. They don't have any so we are tb's last table because we made them uncut her to serve us and now we are waiting for a manager to complain about this service because there is no dessert.

Subject goes here

Bar 10 is ubergay but BT says nothing is as gay as the Queer as Folk party we took him to. When not mobile blogging I will provide a link to that feather cocked wing party

Addiction

We found more friends but they might have a video-crack problem

Bar 8

The Real Annie!

I know...it Is hardly a bar crawl without RJ, but her phone is off so she must be on lockdown. My head hurt this am so I started early. Here i am at bar 7 with Tom at Annie's upstairs. The actual Annie is downstairs, but we were too shy to ask for a pic while she was eating. This is Cutie Chris, her nephew standing in. He's super cute, but only 20, so Leigh Ann says hands and eyes off boys.

This week's Horror-scope

You can't remember when you were last so prepared to find joy. You can't remember when you were last so ready to communicate the truth and nothing but the truth. You can't remember when you were so ready to admit you had nothing to lose. Go there.

Miss p deliver

Yup...sometimes you just gotta go back out for a dog...at least I bought a couple so my homeless pal could have one too.

The Inauguration

My personal cell phone broke so I can't mobile block from the Blackberry. We braved the Metro from U St to Waterfront since Lenfant was closed due to overcrowding. We made our way back North to the mall where all exits were closed. We walked West and the first open entry point was just past the Washington monument. We wiggled our way in front of it with a jumbo tron in sight. My thumbs are frozen, but I am here to witness history.

Miniscule Globe!

We drug Steve and Lisa to a party in the District and started chatting with this dude named Jason. Turns out he was in Orrville, OH at Lisa's Senior prom in 96 as her friend Sabrina's date. Fun times!

AFA vs. Sordid Lives

The Florida Chapter of AFA has attacked Sordid Lives and is trying to go after their advertisers. Here's an excerpt from Joe.My.God. Click it to see the AFA full alert:

According to a Florida Family release, the show depicts various members of the family as lesbian, homosexual, bi-sexual, and transgender. Among the program's sponsors are Memphis-based St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Children International. David Caton: "As a matter of fact, St. Jude Children's Hospital was one of the most frequent advertisers on the five programs that we monitored on LOGO, and Children International has been consistent for about the last three months," he contends. Del Shores, the show's writer, left his wife and two daughters to marry his homosexual partner. Communications from Florida Family to LOGO have gone unanswered, so Caton is calling on the general public to send emails to advertisers.
My super cute Jason Dottley posted this video response on YouTube denouncing the most vicious accusation that he scandalously stole Del from his former wife and kids when Dell was divorced many moons prior to Jason & Dell's marriage.

New Copper Slippers

Why are the most comfortable, most appropriate shoes the ugliest? T2 and I braved the elements and rode Ms. V up to Fleet Feet in Adams Morgan for a new pair of running shoes. The place is great. While I didn't do any preliminary research and paid nearly full price, I have fantastically comfortable running shoes. Considering the condition of my last pair, there was no time to buy online and the experience made it worthwhile.

I didn't realize Fleet Feet was a National chain, but didn't mind considering it throws some dollar bills at the Fenty family. They suggested multiple pair based on my pronation, my running habits, and the wear pattern on my current shoes; I was able to do an outdoor test run in each pair (the best part.) I settled on these beauties. Yes, they are obnoxiously metallic. Please help find copper and/or silver metallic running shorts to complete my ensemble. T2 & Timmy don't think these are a good idea.

Watch out BloodKillerDeathMan...the heat is on for our 1/2 marathon training! See you in Nashvegas!

Happy Birthday Ms. Andrzejewski

It is Pat Benatar's Birthday today! She my hero.

I toasted in her birthday at some undisclosed location last night to "Love is a Battlefield" blaring from the juke box. My cohorts weren't too amused that I insisted on changing focus from Mexi-friend's birthday to Pat's when the clock struck midnight, but a fan must have his priorities in order!

Happy Birthday Pat! You are only 56, you still rock, you still got it, and you will always be my favorite!

Curiosity Killed the Copycat

Two of my friends recently posted their blog ratings courtesy of oneplusyou.com. While it is really a front for a dating site, I jumped on the bandwagon and checked the rating for this site. First, I'll remind you that Boston Steamer came in with a G and The Mango & The Jayhawk earned a PG. I however, earned a PG-13 for my utilization of Sex, Bitch, & Hell. Dirty, dirty, dirty...

Marathon Training Time

I competed in the Country Music 1/2 Marathon last April. While I legitimately intended to run additional races before the end of 2008, limited time and broken bones kept me from it. I've decided to do it again this year and kick off 2009 with a renewed fitness focus. The intention is to finish much quicker than 08 since there are 17 weeks left to train. Please click here to sign up and join me! A long weekend in Nashville can be loads of fun!

In case you missed it, click here to view the finish line photo and my personalized video from 2008!

Party Pics 2008

This year's party theme photo was taken with the wizard hat...Here are the raw photos, but I'm sure something creative will come of them in the future. A big thanks to the Chimneyfall Mike & Chimneyfall Cat for hosting a great party again this year!

Happy New Year!
