24 de Marzo 2009
I wasn't going to blog anything from vacation until I could post my journal or at least compile a representative set of pics. This, however, needed to be posted today! We intended to go to museums but found out it was a national holiday. We participated in our first South American protest! Timmy wanted me to smile, but I couldn't when we were protesting for information on 30,000 people missing since the 70s. There were a gagillion people, some very passionate, some very sad. While we were only spectators for the most part, it was a memorable experience for sure. When it can be put together, I also captured some pretty amazing video. It is still going on, but we are now resting at the hotel. I stopped for a litre of Smirnoff, two bottles of wine, and a soda from the little store on the corner (less than $20 US total!) It's gonna be a fun night!

Buenos Aires Bound!
Layover was painless and we have boarded the plane; next stop is Argentina in 9 hrs 24 mins! We'll try to periodically confirm we're alive. Thanks to Tasty T for house sitting - hope parties at our place aren't more fun without us. You know where we keep the booze!
Fat Girl!
I had a target and a stretch target. I didn't make the stretch target, but thanks to many cocktails last night, I am leaving the country below the target weight!!!!
I started in December, was nearly 250, the FATTEST in my life, and am proud to say that I am now below 220 (219.6 to be exact.) The target was 220 and stretch target was 200. I plan to get a new tattoo when I hit the stretch goal, but the real reward has been the effect on my body from running and working out. My waist tells me I've lost far more weight than ~30 pounds and I will be taking my 'cute' clothes on vacation. I'm such a girl.
When I drop below 200, it will be the first time below my driver's license weight since I was 18! Why am I saying all these details? TO FORCE ME TO STAY ON TRACK! However, there will be NO focus or thinking about it for the next 11 days! Hello vacation! Goodbye rules ;-)
Vacation Night 1
What a way to kick off vacation! I worked till 10 and am starting on U St. RJ says the ladder looks like a giant penis! I am having a cocktail or seven (if I dehydrate myself enough tonight I can reach my target vacation weight) and there appears to be fire dept. drama at Al Crostino. False alarm but lots of firemens!

Weekend
I had a fantastic time visiting my daughter and family. Columbus had a low supply of friends this visit, but it was great to see those who were around. I am VERY ready for vacation on Friday! This long work trip is kicking my azz.

Movie Night!
Red Velvet cake to go with tonight's movie, Steel Magnolias! Happy Birthday Randy! Oh yes, we had mac & cheese, cornbread, and fried chicken from Florida Ave. Grill too!
Nurse Cynthia
Cynthia started clinicals this semester and last week began the part at an actual hospital with real live patients! Unfortunately I was still at the gym when he left and didn't get to see him in his costume on that official milestone. Today, however, I made it home in time to capture this lovely photo. Cute shoes ;-)I may poke fun, but am proud of how well he's done and all the hard work it took him to get here. Mostly I am looking forward to the last three semesters being finished! Don't kill anyone today!

Thanks to DC Blogs
Seventy Six by Matt Roe on Zooomr
While this blog normally gets 10-15 hits a day, that changes when I blog about something "noteworthy." Yesterday, DC blogs had a one liner about the garage chandelier and traffic jumped to 76 hits in one day! Thanks DC Blogs! I suppose writing about the excessive decadence of a chandelier for a car in a time of moderation and frugality is interesting. If one routinely shows restraint and responsibility, it is certainly ok to punctuate life with a dose of fabulous!
I wonder how many people scrolled down to see Merritt's birthday dance? Have a great day! Off to work.

Alive and Tweeting!
I haven't been doing anything blogworthy. My life has consisted of working, running, going to the gym, and sleeping in preparation for the half marathon. Hopefully this wholesome living will result in a vacation ready body. I have lost 25 pounds since the holidays and ran almost 12 miles on each of the last two Saturdays. Progress for sure for a fat old gay.
Since the blog has one reader that might actually care that I am still kicking, I started Twitter updates that can be seen in the upper right corner. I guess, unlike blogging, it is more acceptable to tweet (is that what you call it?) the most mundane things. I also promise to try and find something interesting (drinking events?) to blog about in the near future...maybe even tonight!
As this pic sorta shows, we are entering PA for some fun with the boys. It was MZs 50th on Thursday and we're gonna celebrate!

A 'Real' Snow Storm!
I've complained that there haven't been any 'real' snow storms in the District this year. I was skeptical at the original 6-10" forecast, and rightfully so, but we did get 3-6" in the District! This pic was taken at 7:30 AM. The trains were dead and few people made it to the office, but I was there. My Ohio roots don't let a little pile of snow get in the way. It amazes me how people, even those that take the train, are afraid of snow, and use it as a lame excuse to stay in. As expected, by 11:00 AM it had essentially stopped and all the roads near my office were clear.
