Last May, former Ziegfeld's & Secrets owner, Allen Caroll, obtained the zoning, etc. to re-open the clubs near the old SW location. We haven't heard much about it in the straight or gay media. According to a January 26th Washington Blade article (click for full story):
The clubs are slated to open in a warehouse building at 1824 Half St., S.W., less than half a mile from the O Street, S.E., gay entertainment strip that was demolished to make way for the stadium and where Ziegfeld’s and Secrets operated for more than 20 years. Our closeted Republican politicians and staffers will be pleased to know they can once again hop a few blocks from the Capital to catch a drag show and DL 'lap dance' starting the first or second weekend in February. I'm pleased that it will be located in a historic gay club location and curious if Ms. Blair Michaels will leave her post at Towne or at least make an appearance at the new Ziegfelds? I'm sure the Chimney Fall gang will make a pilgrimage to tell you all about it on the blogs. The trip will be exclusively documentary of course since we're all good Christian women ;-)
The new location on Half Street, S.W., is the former home to Pier 9, one of the city’s first large gay disco clubs that opened in the 1970s. Pier 9 closed in the 1980s and its building was occupied by a series of straight nightclubs before it became vacant last year.
