Downhill

I knew the shiny new U St. CVS wouldn't last long. The trash can at the front door is already busted and the Wal-Martesque greeter is gone.

The day after

So Vera & Tim went to school. Vera almost made it home.

Movie Night Review

Apparently we actually watched a movie. I missed that part. We did have a genuine good time. Here's the closing picture, taken after the neighbors yelled and asked us to be quiet. I love the candy cigarettes.

On the street sign at Solly's...bday party must stop soon.

Happy Birthday Timmy

We are celenebriating at Duffy's Irish Pub. There are 11 of us and it has to be an early night since Timmy has his first exam tomorrow. Rita Jean gave him this lovely light up tambourine. Other gifts included fancy pens and a male nurse action figure. Fantastic!

Evidence

hmmm. When papa bear returns, he's gonna know somebody has been parking in his garage. Has our child been entertaining?

We fell asleep shortly after our late dinner. Much needed sleep!

Happy 30th Birthday Steve! That's alot of candles. I can't believe my little brother is 30. I'm old.

Mansion Update

Final trim is being installed and the painters have taped for final paint! The mansion is definitely coming along nicely! They should be in around the first week in November.

Scoot-A-Que Rally Photos

Click the logo or here to see Rally photos. Visit rally sponsors at the top when you get there and see individual participants rally photos at the bottom. I may update later with some actual pics of my Vespa or pics where (gasp) people captured me on film. Here's an example where Merritt and I are hanging by the stage watching the band.

Washington Irish R.F.C. Trivia

We won! Took second place in the first game and the first place in the second one. It was a fun time. We had 10 total people, but not all at the same time. Some other teams attributed our win to the size of our team, but they were cheating with wireless devices.

We also raised money for our Chimney Fall AIDSwalk team! Read all about Solly's Trivia on the Washington Irish site by clicking below. Support the Box!

Trophy!

Here's my trophy photographed on top of the Rally T for this year. I'm very proud of this trophy and will treasure it to remember this awesome weekend. Time for a shower to wash the bugs out of my teeth! If you looked at the mobile blogging earlier, check again as I replaced some of the grainy phone photos with real ones!

Home!

7 hrs 52 mins total travel time for 408 miles including three gas / walk stops. I'm home!

New Orlean MD

This is actually the middle of nowhere. The BP even has a bar. I took a wrong turn on my shortcut and it took longer than I thought to get to 68 so not sure how far I have left, but I've ridden 305 miles since I left CMH. I am beginning to freeze as the sun is blocked by the mountains.

Brownsville PA

Full Service gas? I'm in the middle of nowhere taking a shortcut from 70 to 68 to get a back break from the freeway and just got full service gas. This is funny. I'm at 183 miles so nearly half way home.

Cambridge, OH

I drank too much coffee at breakfast and didn't fill up before I left so my first stop is at 78 miles. Time to move on!

Leaving CMH

Had breakfast with the scooter gang at Tip Top (formerly the Vine) and heading out for DC!

Priceless

$3.00 smokes at BP, $4.00 premium vodka or 24 oz. tall boy PBRs, $11.66 recovery food at White Castle, dropping your friend off at the bath house on your way home cause he REALLY needs some tail, priceless.

We are now going to eat...$11.66 buys alot alot of sliders!

I Won!

So I didn't win the Vespa Raffle, but I did take first place for the "Furthest Ridden," edging out a woman from Roanoke by 50 miles! Check out the trophy! We are heading out to visit our gays. Decided not to stay and watch the last band, "Cult of the Psychic Fetus." Really - that's their name.

Ride it girl!

That's the way to play an instrument! The main rally event is at High Five and we are rocking out to 'Lords of the Highway.' Nice.

Bought 5 tickets to win a PX150! Raffle in an hour or so.

Safe Ride

The ride is done and we're back at the North Market for the brewfest. Taking of soon to meet Merritt for a cocktail at Club D then will prepare for the evening festivities. Fun day friends!

Rally Time

This is stop #2. We took a group photo at the Conservatory. Fun Times! Ran into a bunch of old friends and making new ones. I'm sure that surprises everyone. There are hundreds of people expected tonight, and allegedly 135 on this ride! Perhaps the biggest rally ever for Scoot-a-Que!

bad idea

This is me on the way to BWI thinking that drinking last night was a bad idea. Excited about the rally, disgusted by this early flight.

Laura's Wheels

She thinks she's using our car when Jym takes theirs to Boston, but I think we should line up this fine Schwinn for her. I want some purple handle bar tassels like that for my Vespa! Wouldn't that look cute on the turnpike!

Scooter Schism

Columbus is ready! The media is talking 'bout the scooters. The Other Paper hasn't posted the article online so I'm not sure if they are talking about a schism of new vs vintage or schism between riders / non riders, etc. Regardless, it is the Other Paper, they have to embrace the scooters!

Of course if the rally is boring (it won't be) I could always attend the Alternative Craft Fair

Butt What?

This story, "For men, no ifs when it comes to butts," is brief and will make you smile. Apparently according to the Hindustan Times, men in India are quite concerned about the appearance of their butts. The author sums it up when he says, “Bottoms define a person’s sex appeal.” I'm not going to make any further comment.

I did throw up a graphic of a Bollywood star for your viewing pleasure - no clue who he is!

My Vespa

Look! It's an ad for my Granturismo! It even has the right color, but I generally don't pick up chicks!

Scoot-a-Que X

I'm so excited for next weekend. This is a hilarious thing posted by one of the Columbus Cutters. Check it out by clicking here. It is a brief video and not inappropriate for the workplace.

Happy Adams Morgan Day!

All the peeps behind the bar.

Sunday Festival Fun Day

should at least capture the street scene!

Short Bar

We were enjoying AMD, but it too hot so we settled into Millie & Als. We got the bad seats at the bar.

Happy Birthday Paula

We celebrate Paula's Birthday at Solly's on the patio and are contemplating Adams Morgan Days.

Jade?

The peeps think Jade from America's Next Top Model is hanging out on U St. by Solly's Tavern? I don't know if it is her (or even who she is for that matter) but we snapped a shot anyway???

New Restaurant

We gotta eat here!

Work

The long weekend was much better than work, but such is life. I found out the reflector I broke on my bike only costs $7.00 to fix, but the exhaust I want will be too much. I have to make that decision today.

My DC Special Friends are back in town - they've safely arrived from NOLA. Check out the blogged pics.

Final Gas Report

Last night was crazy madness as usual in CMH. I saw lots of friends! Stayed with BS and had lunch with Merritt and BS at Max & Ermas (shock) today. I left the Vespa in CMH as previously discussed. Dotster & Kelley drove me to the airport and Timmy picked me up at BWI so I didn't have to take the train.

Had a nice dinner with Michael, TB, LW, and Timmy at Stoney's - love their food.

Here's the final gas report. I forgot to check when I left, but the last time I looked, I had ridden just short of 500 miles getting to my various destinations and rolling around in each of them. Total fill ups - 7.604 Gallons for $22.28. I actually didn't fill it up before I left so I can't do an actual mpg calculation, but it should come out somewhere between 55-65 mpg! Try that in an SUV!

#1 - 2.522 / $7.16
#2 - 1.231 / $3.53
#3 - 2.065 / $6.25
#4 - 1.786 / $5.34

Looking forward to Scoot-A-Que in two weeks and the ride back to DC! Hopefully the weather will be good.

Holy X2

A second latin dancer at Havanna. John tells me they are a commodity in CMH these days. We may have to move back. I mean this aint Home Depot and they are still lining up!

Another

So I generally blog only once per location, but this is Gonzales at Havanna. I bought him a drink earlier after being introduced by friends. He's too tall, but otherwise. Oh my jeebus.

Havanna

So it is a stripper chase! This is "Jay Crew" at Havanna. Hot! Hot! Hot!

Sunday Service

It may not be church, but it is worship. Gotta love Garrett's Saloon! This is "Evan" and there are three others here tonight.

Columbus OH

Sky and Ashes greet me at my final destination. I arrived at about 7:30 and will grill out with the girls then drink with the boys.

Licking

I forgot to blog at 5:30 when I left my parent's house....just passing through Licking.

Goat Eats!

She likes the corn!

Goat

Whit completed her mansion inspection and was impressed! Now she is posing with Goat for a photo op!

Shopping

Picked up Whit and had to stop for some nails and calf supplement for Dad. Keith drove since the Vespa would not accomodate such purchases.

Scoot-A-Que 10

A change of plans! I had the brilliant idea to see when my old scooter club, The Columbus Cutters, was having its annual scooter rally. You can imagine my excitement when I found out it is in two weeks AND it is the 10th anniversary. I've decided to leave the Vespa in Columbus and fly back home Monday! I'll be spending time with Whitney tomorrow and then going to stay with friends tomorrow night.

In two weeks I'll fly back in to Columbus, do the rally on Saturday and Sunday, then scoot back to DC! I even called my old scooter mechanic's shop. I may have some modifications done on the Vespa while she is waiting on my return. I think a high performance exhaust kit will give me the added passing power I need in the mountains for the return trip so I can go through WV/MD instead of the turnpike. They are calling me Tuesday with a quote and to let me know if they can fit it in before the rally! Fun times.

Holmes County

Had a fantastic afternoon with Jeffrey, his Mom, and two Sisters. We ate home made pierogis, noodles, and some other polish dish with ham and cabbage. Yummy. After birthday cake for his Mom, I finished the journey and arrived at my parent's farm! Safe and sound.

Bergholz OH

Here to see Jeffrey and his family!

Off to Ohio

Bye Bye Pittsburgh!

Gas Summary Report

We had a fantastic time last night! I had a few beers after arriving and then showered to get the black road grime/bug guts off my face. We went to dinner at a cute local pub and then went to two bars and a pizza joint (tasty.) Let me just say that Long Islands were $1 at the Saloon and you know how I am with a clearance price friends....we needed the pizza at the end of the night.

So here's a cost recap for you doubters...this trip makes sense for fuel prices alone:

Gas fill up #1 - 2.522 Gallons for $7.16
Gas fill up #2 - 1.231 Gallons for $3.53
Total fill ups - 3.753 Gallons for $10.69

Now I didn't have quite a full tank when I left and I have 3/4 of a tank now. This is some economical and green driving friends. I'm not doing it solely to have people stare at me on the turnpike for shock value; I'm doing it for the environment.

Pizza with bacon!

Cut it! Serve it! Swallow it! It looks tastactular!
